  • New York Rangers fans: the mos New York Rangers fans: the most passionate fans in sports

    • From: RangersFan4Ever
    • Description:

If we look at some of the most sucessful franchises in sports: New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics, Montreal Canadiens, etc., there is none more unique than the New York Rangers. They may not be the most successful team ever, but they sure are the "classiest team in hockey." They've got the most passionate fans in the world. If you look at the Rangers' attendance records, they have sold out EVERY GAME, whether it was during a winning season or a disappointing season. They draw 18,200 fans to ALL games at Madison Square Garden. Why is that? Rangers fans are the most loyal and the most faithful fans ever. They don't care if the Rangers win or lose, they just want to see the team they love. The Rangers have had they bad moments. From not winning the cup in a 54 year drought to not making the playoffs from 1998-2004, their fans continued to support their beloved Blueshirts. I DON'T want to hear the ignorant Islanders and Devils fans say "you guys play at the Garden, in the biggest city in the world, and half of your seats are owned by businesses." Because if you look at the Knicks, they play in the same arena/city, and has half of their seats owned by businesses. But when they stink, they don't draw sell out crowds, whereas for the Rangers, they sellout whether they win OR lose.

In Game 6 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Quarter Finals, after the Rangers lost to Buffalo 5-4 in New York, the Garden faithful remained in the arena, and still gave the Rangers a standing ovation for their efforts. For the Rangers fans, there is no shame in defeat. Just pride in how far they came. That's why the Rangers, even though they lost, still gave their fans a final salute by raising their sticks. In contrast, Islanders and Devils fans would be complaining and cry like babies when they lose. They are the biggest sore losers in the world.

I don't know if any other fan notices, but I think Rangers fans share a bond together. There is always this feeling of love between Rangers fans. Whenever I see someone, a stranger, a classmate, people from facebook, etc., I would go up to them and say "Lets go Rangers," and would have a good conversation with them. That's why most of my friends who like hockey are Rangers fans. Rangers fans has this bond that I don't think any fan of other team would have.

I have been a Rangers fan for over 40 years. I hated when they got Drek [sic] Sanderson, when they traded Retelle and Park for Esposito and Vadnais, when they let Messier and later Leetch go. But this is too dumb.

      Brashear?

Why not hire somebody to break the knees of opposing star players (a'la Tanya Harding vs. Nacy Kerrigan)? Simpler and cheaper.

If I wanted to watch fighting I'd watch Chris Jericho on WWE

I could only sadly chuckle when I read Sather's comment "He is quicker and he can get on the puck a little faster" Quicker to drop his gloves maybe. Puck? He would not know what it is if he ever saw one. Hockey stick? He'd probably fall over if someone tapped him with it on a shoulder. To think of it, he did!

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnP18StCoHA

I guess it also means that the stRangers going to drop Betts. Maybe quick Brashear can kill the penalties...

    • Description:

I live in West Virginia where exposure to hockey is limited in certain areas. In 1990, I got to experience my first professional game in Pittsburgh, since it was close to my college. The Pens played the Rangers, and since my friend was a Pens fan, I naturally had to root against him, and have been a Rangers fan since then.

I will never forget the experience of the 1994 Stanley Cup playoffs. To this day, images of those games flash through my head, and it is those images, and the strange aura of those games that leads me to believe something special, something different is happening again this year.

Those of us who remember the incredible magic of 1994 know that anything is possible, and as this series returns to Pittsburgh for game 5, we MUST KEEP THE FAITH!!

Although we are simply fans, not active members on the ice, our team realizes the support and energy we provide, and it is our duty not to watch and cheer with doubt and anxiety, but rather with the expectation of victory. To steal a phrase from Jagr, I encourage everyone to believe, and for those of you lucky enough to attend the game, raise your voices loud enough for those of us at home to hear.

      Go Rangers!!!

  • Positive and Negative Notes on Positive and Negative Notes on New Rangers coach John Tortorella

    • From: New_Yorker30
    • Description:

He is trying to rebuild his team’s overall confidence level, which is what this team has been needing.

Tortorella is judging which players fit where in his system - and which ones do not fit at all. Something that is quite different from Tom Renny's aproach who switched lines to his liking. This way (hopefully) players won't be as confused about their rolls on this team, and become more involved in the game.

~ As far as line ups go - sow far we know that our fourth-liners are Blair Betts, Colton Orr, and Fredrik Sjostrom.Who worked very well in the last game.

~ Tortorella created top two defensive pairings - Wade Redden with Michal Rozsival and Marc Staal alongside Dan Girardi.

~ Over all the the guys have been agressive in the offence, keeping controll of the puck for most part of the 1st & 2nd periods. But still this team fails to put pucks in the net.

Personally, I like his style, he's more straight forward. He knows how push the guys and focuses in the areas that the team need to work on. Honest guy. Won't give you a hug when you do well (like Renny), and won't kick you in the "can" if you don't.

      Negatives

~ Rangers have only 20 games remaining in the regular season in which to secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. And with 2 loses we are down to 18 (I think).

~The Rangers have lost 23 manpower games due to injury or illness this season.

~ What I am worried about is the the guys will become puppets to this guy. His theory on hockey is alright, don't get me wrong. But, knowing each players prsonality would be a better way to motivate and bring back the confidence on the ice rink........

If you want 7.5 then i want at least 90points or more for that kind of money.Zherdev looks good cam off a good season well just see what he can do and hopefully Naslund can wake-up here n get back into 03 form. On Defense I like Tyutin he was good player...But Thank God They Got ride of Backman he sucked what a disappointment last year..Redden i guess ok pick up we need a defensemen thank can move the puck well havent had that since brian leetch...but we need a big guy on defense that gonna but guys on the ass'es n protect of our guys....Well I guess where just gonna have to wait for the season to start to see if where gonna Hang Sather

      From my sister Agravaine

"Put the refs behind you. Put the early whistle behind you. Everyone who is coming to the game on Tues, I don't have tickets but I will be at the Garden. Come prepared to show your support for your team. You have to have faith. Five on five the boys have been strong. Special teams we have struggled but our power play does have the ability to get hot for times. And hopefully they will turn it around. The boys, with all our support, will come back in this series. The series isn't over until one team has four wins. If we win both t the Garden its a new series come on fans let's get working and show our support. Cheers, Let's Go RANGERS!! BLEED BLUE!!"

      From me

The Rangers haven't played well no sense kidding about that but we all know they can play better and even not playing well they have kept the Penguins close and the games have been winnable games. Series isn't over until one team has four wins that hasn't happened yet. The Rangers have played well against teh Penguins at MSG all year. The Rnger win two games at the Garden and the momentum moves to their favor for a game 5 at Pittsburgh. One junk goal can start a pp one good win can start a run. The Rangers have done well this year when their backs are against the wall. And I think that Tuesday and Thursday are two games that can change this series. So yeah forget the disputed calls because they are in the past. What needs to happen now is a focus on the future this series is not over. The Rangers have played two sloppy games and lost by one goal in game one and two in game two (one of those being a empty netter)

They can play better we know it and they know it now they just need to do it!

Henrik and Joel Lundqvist would love the chance to play each other in the Stanley Cup Finals. Henrik Lundqvist and Joel Lundqvist (2006)

H enrik's identical twin, Joel, a Dallas Star' center

      Joel Lundqvist said:

"Yeah, my wife gave birth to our first child (on April 20); a little girl (Vilma ) around lunchtime," Joel told NHL.com. "So, to us, he's Uncle Henrik now."

It's definitely not the first time Joel has given Henrik a little nudge to the gut with sly commentary, and it certainly won't be the last, but the brotherly bond between Henrik and Joel is certainly special. In addition to playing the game they love in different cities, they are also excited about the prospects of possibly meeting in hockey's biggest series -- the Stanley Cup Final.

"It's still far down the road, but wouldn't that be something if we met up in the Final?" Joel said. "Of course, it's possible since we both play for teams that have advanced and want to go all the way. It would be awesome if it happens."

      Joel said:

"Each of us really wanted to win, so that's why it was always the best when we were on the same team. If one was on the other team and lost, that person sometimes ended up crying, just like any other young brother would, or running away. So it was better being together."

      it jokes bird is back...

Now that they have both, let the double-dipping begin.

From kind-hearted Tom Renney, Avery got just enough love and understanding to maintain revolutionary decorum and be an asset to the hockey club. Now Sean will get another kind of love – TOUGH LOVE – which, at this point in time is precisely what he requires. Tortorella will be the General Patton to Private Avery.

"Sean fills the bill for dedication and team toughness. Glen Sather has made it clear that he likes Sean and now Tortorella knows that he has to make it work – and he will."

I like Sean Avery, but he is no solution for the problems of the Rangers for me. John Tortorella didn't say much good in December about Avery.

Dog and cat meet. The question is whoever is the dog and who the cat. Laughing

Does Avery become for himself against Tortorella through can place? It becomes to see definitely merrily how the two ones together too properly come.

I for mine part pleases me for them on the dance of the two one(s), which thinks, over the two ones? The games of the Rangers from now become again entertaining. Cool

    • From: ChrisDruryNumber1Fan
    • Description:

Wow, hockey season in midtown Manhattan is off to a roaring start. The Rangers are 4-0 since naming CHRIS DRURY captain! Nah, it's probably just a coincidence ;) But think about it: in his last season in Buffalo, Chris Drury was the road captain for the Sabres (I think Briere was the home captain) and the Sabres had one of the best road records in the league. You may not think that leadership abilities and decision-making on the fly has a huge impact on the game, but history will tell you that it does. But of course, what good is leadership without a team to lead? Which brings me to my next subject, the players.

When the Rangers signed Aaron Voros in July, I let out a groan of frustration and berated anyone who would come near me about how signing such a bum is a waste of money. Odds are there are a lot of us out there who thought this was the case. WOW, let me be the first to admit that I was totally wrong about Aaron Voros. I would like to take the opportunity to whole-heartedly apologize to him, and tell everyone that he, after 4 games, has broken the top 3 of my favorite rangers. Which is currently: 1. Chris Drury (duh) 2. Brandon Dubinsky 3. Aaron Voros (sorry i ever doubted you)

Now, let's talk about what's been happening on the ice. We haven't lost yet! isn't that amazing? After reading so many different season previews from the media (most of which were largely indecisive) no one really knew how we would do. But over in Prague, the King gave the bolts fits, only yielding 2 goals in as many games. Dubinsky and Redden stood out in Prague as the top dogs, as far as skaters go. Redden man, that guy has some shot. He's gonna be a real weapon on the power play, with Gomez setting him up: are you kidding??? Our special teams look like something to be excited about.

Now back to North America, and MSG against the Hawks. Until about halfway through the game, it was up in the air. But Dubi took over, and he  was named 3rd star; Voros was first star, which didnt surprise me (hes so good). Lundqvist had another solid outing, both goals were earned for the hawks. Philadelphia was something of an enigma. I thought it was more fatigue than anything; keep in mind Valli was in net and not Lundqvist. Valli is an enigma in himself; the guy could be a superstar if not for his dreadful 5-hole. He's so beatable down there, i'm surprised not too many other teams have picked up on it. But Zherdev scores, a sick wrap around by Freddie Sjostrom, and another goal that i cant recall at the moment, and tack on a Roszival PP goal to make it 4-0. the flyers scored 3, but like the ones against Chicago, none of them were softies. but the refs blew a Goaltender interference call on the second philly goal. Valli was down and out. But whatever; we're 4-0 and I'm pretty happy! Blueshirt nation should be as well! tomorrow we face a tough team in Jersey, and we'll take it from there. I'm gonna try to continue this blog weekly, even when my high school baseball season kicks off in January: keep in mind I'm a shortstop before I'm a blogger haha. I should be getting a webcam soon so I won't have to type all this too. Anyway, that's it for now! hope you enjoyed what will hopefully be the first of many blogs.Laughing

NHL SUES TO KICK OUT GARDEN

      June, 2008 (New York Post)

      Fight of the giants

The NHL is threatening to kick the owners of the Rangers out of the league or force them to sell the team as punishment for accusing league officials of violating antitrust laws.

Madison Square Garden sued the NHL in September, saying it violated antitrust laws by monopolizing control of team promotions. A judge ruled in November that the league seemed within its rights to take control of the team's Web site.

MSG first went to the courts just as the league was preparing to fine the organization $100,000 per day if the company did not give the hockey league complete control over the Rangers' Web site and other promotions.

Madison Square Garden, which is owned by Cablevision Systems Corp., owns the Rangers, the NBA's Knicks New York Knicks [if gte vml 1]> , the WNBA's Liberty and several venues, including Madison Square Garden, home of the Rangers, Knicks and Liberty.

DOLAN'S THE GOOD GUY IN BATTLE WITH BETTMAN

This threat to take the Rangers New York Rangers [if gte vml 1]> [endif] away from Jim Dolan isn't about legalities. This isn't even about the Garden suing the NHL. Not really. Rather, this is about Dolan and the Garden challenging the despotic reign of Gary Bettman just the way Bob Goodenow had the temerity to do so. Bettman is claiming that, with a three-quarters vote of the Board to discipline Dolan that would follow a hearing, he not only has the power to remove Dolan and sell the team, but essentially has the authority to do whatever he pleases with the Rangers franchise.

This isn't about Cablevision. This isn't about Isiah Thomas. Hey, maybe it is about Thomas. Maybe Bettman has volunteered to carry David Stern's water for him and the NBA. Stranger things have happened; stranger things like the vindictive commissioner of the NHL going public with a threat to take control of the league's flagship American franchise.

And exactly where does Bettman think the Rangers will play if he strips Dolan and the Garden of ownership? At Rye Playland?

Now is it so far Avery Fashion

Anyone still believe Avery won't be back? No way can he leave New York now, and I have no doubt he'll be a Ranger next year.

      Why??? ...

Lauryn Flynn to start fashion company with Sean Avery Sean and Lauryn Flynn

Lauryn Flynn, Calvin Klein's longtime director of celebrity services, has left the company. A spokesperson for Calvin Klein confirmed that Flynn's last day was Monday. No replacement has been named. The buzz is that Flynn left to start her own fashion company with best friend--and New York Ranger left wing--Sean Avery, who is interning at Vogue this summer. The two have recently incorporated their company name and will work as celebrity stylists. Avery, meanwhile, will continue on with his career as a professional hockey player. "We want to get it back to the point where girls don't worry about what Us Weekly says," said Avery. "It's about expressing individual style and just wearing what's cool. I'm totally consumed by fashion. We want to help them bring their individuality back."

The photogenic duo were recently profiled by Marie Claire for its April issue under the heading "Cool Guys Talk Fashion," where Flynn trend-tested a Calvin Klein sack dress. "It's not Lauryn's style, which is early-'90s Seattle grunge," Avery concluded. "But it totally works with her signature battered biker boots."

In her tenure at the iconic American fashion house, she helped land the designs of Francisco Costa on the backs of everyone from the Olsen twins and Sienna Miller to Elle Macpherson and Scarlett Johansson. Most recently, Eva Mendes has been a house favorite, and a trio of Sex and the City stars--Chris Noth and David Eigenberg among them--all donned Calvin Klein Collection suits to the New York premiere. a star to go astray

Believe do you, Avery return to the Rangers?

As I sit here watching the Penguins dance over my Rangers, I can’t help but notice how bias the refs are. Why? Because Crosby and Malkin are the future of the NHL? What happened with the high stick on Drury? Oh that’s right, the Penguins’ did it, so no call. But if someone even checks the Penguins, it’s a penalty. I don’t know what kind of shift the NHL is running, but I think the teams and their fans deserve a fair game from refs that have no intentions on being bias. The NHL commission needs to look at the men in black and white and seriously start weeding through the ranks! It’s a complete disgrace on the game! SHAPE UP, NHL!

      it should not be.

      Thank you, Rangers

We were in Bern, it was indescribable. We went to dream becomes reality, once the rangers in a game in real time to experience. So far, we saw the rangers only on internet tv, but for every game.Ryan Callahan

Scott Gomez, we have in Atlanta when Allstar Game 2008 ever experience. This experience in Atlanta was Scott Gomezsomething special, but not with Bern to compare.

In Bern, we saw the whole team and saw two excellent games. But not only that, we came very close to the players go. Shortly before the game against metallur Magnitogorsk said my husband Scott Gomez and asked him for an autograph on his Allstar jersey. Scott Gomez said: Yes, after the warm-up." He then came earlier by ice and took the time for the autograph. Trikots

After the Victoria Cup Game it was another Scott Gomez, after the showers and to change clothes came to us spoke with us. Scott Gomez has the impression from Atlanta only confirms that he is a great guy with a fine character. By Henrik Lundqvist we got an autograph on a jersey and two Henrik Lundqvistphotos he signed in the locker-room. Eric Staal gave his Stick to a fan from Switzerland. The trip to Switzerland, of Hanover, was for us an unforgettable and nice experience. Not because of the autographs, but because we were so close experience. A dream, we have, once a game in Madison Square Garden.

This dream we meet next year.

Wade ReddenOf course there are with us in Hanover hockey, they play under the name Hanover Scorpions in the DEL. We go to all their home, but DEL and NHL are like night and day, it's not comparable. I write about the New York Rangers and Hanover Scorpions for a German ice hockey magazine. I photograph and write about the two teams, because i have a hockey big hobby. I was in Bern with my husband private, but i couldn't let to report and much to photography.

My English is not so good; I hope you gave me something still understood.Brandon Dubinsky

Perhaps the one or other so what in the way to experience, I would be pleased if you tell anyone would.
